I wounder if going smaller would work? It seems all of the homemade ones in this forum are much bigger than than the delta pictured on page one. Smaller might have same effect but less drag to pull the suction off.

I made mine with the idea of being able to rotate the gate for testing. So far I have only used it in the upper picture configuration. I plan on testing the other configurations tomorrow if the weather stays nice. I'd like to run the smallest tab I can. I had zero issues with it for about 15 hours of use last weekend. I didn't take a picture, but I found a piece of 14 gauge wire in my garage. I crimped and soldered a ring terminal on one end of the wire and then attached it to one of the mounting screws that I left taller than the others. I crimped a loop in the other end of the wire then I placed that over my rear most cleat. I cut the wire just long enough that the gate would not hit the boat if it were to fall off. It would be drug just behind the swim deck till the boat stopped. It never fell off so that wasn't an issue. The second day out we attached a carabiner to the loop and then clipped it to the cleat. That way I didn't worry about the loop slipping off the cleat as I made it just a bit too big. I used the aluminum HOD and painted it all black. I also build the frame work instead of buying the shelf bracket. I was able to build it to 80* and then mount the gates flat up against the bracket instead of using spacers. The gates are held on with 4 screws and wing nuts for easy swapping, until I decide on which gate configuration I like best.

Took the boat out today and tested my "suckgate" and it worked like a dream!! Finally figured out why the boat was going into limp mode which was due to low oil pressure so I added an extra quart of oil and the boat never died today. Here is a pic of the goofy wave we took, I've always had problems with this side and it was great today!

We didn't take a pic of the regular wave but here's a screen shot from a video after someone crashed so it's not the best pic but it gives you the idea of how great the gate is, we filled both ballasts full and then just switched the gate from side to side, no more emptying ballasts to switch between riders! Amazing!

Looks great! I built my sucker gate and did some initial testing last night. Testing was good but I need to make some modifications because it would not stay on my boat over 9mph. I'm thinking either making it a touch smaller or increasing the angle. The current plate is 8" x 12" and the angle is at 11 degrees. Any thoughts on what option might be better (size vs angle)? I could also put some holes in it to reduce the drag....

That gate looks great and well built! I'm surprised it wouldn't stay on, mine was nearly impossible to get off! Make sure to clay bar the area you are going to use and make sure the area is as flat as possible. My gate is 10x10 and probably has an angle of about 10-15 degrees, just guessing here.

Reduce it down to about 6x9. That's a little to big imo

Just tested mine this morning. I decided to do a quick one with the cheap lowes brackets and is 7" going to 6" x 9. Mine stuck right on and I had a hard time getting it off. I had about 750 in each rear locker to start with and no weight in the front. It worked but I didn't care for the wave. It might have been better if I added weight in the front but I figured that typically adding weight in the front lengthens the wave and knocks it down. I ended up dumping one side and just surfing.

Haha, I just looked up the suction cup on Amazon and at the bottom it shows that this item is frequently purchased with a cutting board. It is making a difference out there.

Mine sprayed like that when I had the tab angled up. When you stick it to the side of the boat you need to angle it down so that when the boat is moving it will push the water down into the lake instead of up and out of the lake. Or just for fun, angle it up even more than your picture shows, from spray. By brother was sitting in that corner of the boat. Soaked him.
