Overall it reduces the height of the wave compared to heavily listed, it also mellows the ramp out. Which at first I didn't like the "look" of the wave. Also the added length is nice. My airs and tricks are better, the only thing that has to change is my board designs. . They are all made for a steep wave and they lack drive on a gate wave. I personally like it hybrid. Which is 2500 surf side, 500 or so offside and letting my normal crew site wherever they want. Which is very nice. Also my boat seems more happy riding more level.
Do beginners do better with the gate wave vs listed? Beginners have trouble on my fully listed setup with a steep wave.

I believe they do, but I haven't had much first hand. Wave is less steep, so in theory it should be easier to ride.

I never thought I might hear you with device love! In MB land, where I live now, my GSA wave is crazy good. It is a bit like you describe, different, but firm, long and nice. It needs to be ridden differently. I prefer it to the listed wave.

And my boat, and occupants, enjoy the level.

I like your hybrid take, my 24Ve did good hybrid like that, until my brother in law lost my fake gate for me.

lots of nice looking diy gates in here!
I have spent a ton of time tweaking my own designs to improve the wake my 22Ve puts out. My listed wake always looked pretty nice but never had the push or clean 'lip' i really needed to get airs consistently. For me I like the wedge as far back as it can go and taps on 4, I set mine up in the shallower angle for newer riders, it lengthens the wave and makes it less steep. If they're first timers you can also drive with a slight turn, that will really take away the steepness.

My biggest problem is now the huge platform chopping the wake of my 22ve, anyone have a good company to get smaller platforms?

Here a few clips of my wake shaper in action.
