Finally got to try it out on my boat. I can say I was very impressed. Length and push were both improved without listing. Steering was stiff but was able to turn both directions without any issue. AL handle didn't move a bit on a polished hull. I won't go back to listing on my boat. My hull like it a lot more no more grabbing air with the prop either

That was running 350 in locker (centered), 350 on rear seat (centered) 220 plates under the rear seat, 1 kid on each side of the rear seat, then wife driving and brother on observer seat. Listed I had to have at least 2-3 more people to get the push this has and still never had the length this puts out. For an older DD hull I'm very happy. Plus boat is a lot easier to drive and less chance of a wave going over the rear rail.

My conclusion- wave does not have the same lip as listed, it has a distinct line in wave 2/3 way up. What is better is that the wave is harder for sure, can go slower and have a harder wave, the other thing I noticed was how far out into the flats I could go. I had never been so wide of the boat, that was a def. bonus. If I could get rid of line in wave might be onto something. At work right now, will post pics of new gate later for anyone who wants to see. It also changed the wave closer to the boat.
Hey Dukes - can you explain or better yet post a pic of how you attached the actual gate to the Princess Auto plastic suction handle?

            Thanks!

I had a video too but photobucket is acting up, anyhow, I just drilled through the handle as you can see where the 2 bolts are. I drilled the holes a little larger than needed so that the handle can still flex, I think that helps in it sticking as well as it does. Once I am satisfied with one of these things I will spend a little more time honing in on the aesthetics but for now no point in wasting too much time on that. Hope this helps

                see if this works
ok so it worked, I like this being adj so you can test with the varying angles and whats best, just haven't had the time yet. The nice thing with the suction cups too is you can adj how close to the transom the gate is. I built this with what was in the garage so not ideal but it works

Very cool! Not pretty but I love the idea of adjustable angle. What material did you use for gate? What is that adjusting device? Princess auto as well? Is it stainless?

Thanks for taking the time to explain!

So, mixed results. Of course this was just one session with it so it's not perfected in the slightest. It made it really easy to get a nice, clean, usable wake, but not the best wake I've ever produced with my boat. It did increase the length but, I know this will be a shocker, killed the height. There's a ton of potential energy that is lost on the location of the lip. It's in the middle of the wake. There is the typical of Sucgate giant flat spot from the lip to where the spine was. If I can connect the the lip to the spine, well, then I'll have it. Just too much effect from the device I think. I think I'll be cutting it (the cutting board) down quite a bit to try and bring the spine back to center. I think it will decrease the "crab" of the lateral hull attitude and it might take some math I'm probably not capable of to bring those two back together. I'll have to do it the hard way, trial and error. Day one is in the books at least.

It should be noted that this test was in an alkaline lake. It's much more bouyant than a clear lake. I've always struggled to get good wakes at this lake. However, it has water in it. A big plus around these parts. Cleanup takes 2-3 times as long at the end of the day though. Whata ya gonna do?

Ok, pics. 450 both rears, 10mph, 20deg Sucgate as far back as possible, just above the lower section set horizontal with bottom of hull, taps full up. 4 adults (3 surf side), 4 children (1 observer's, 3 how).

                      Couple more...

Flat section is very meaty. You can take a big 'ol bite and it'll hold.

                          Jetter,

the material is uhdm or equivalent, but I think ply is def fine for the trial and error part, the adj part is a stainless turnbuckle I had kicking around. Homedepot sells some too, just not as beefy or stainless, but would still work. Yeah once I get something I am really happy with I will fine tune it.

I have built 6 suck gates now for friends, I have tried it on 8 different boats- brands.

Overall it reduces the height of the wave compared to heavily listed, it also mellows the ramp out. Which at first I didn't like the "look" of the wave. Also the added length is nice. My airs and tricks are better, the only thing that has to change is my board designs. . They are all made for a steep wave and they lack drive on a gate wave. I personally like it hybrid. Which is 2500 surf side, 500 or so offside and letting my normal crew site wherever they want. Which is very nice. Also my boat seems more happy riding more level.
