My design for a TAPS3-VX

We have taken a traded rz2 out with a VX a couple time this summer and slapped a delta on it basically as low and as far back as possible. Still running ballast slightly listed (fill rears 100% fronts 70ish depending on if anyone's sitting in bow) then just drain offside for a couple minutes to help boat roll over a bit coming out of the hole to help wave form up quicker. No complaints yet. Had one friend riding wireless his second time out.

If you look at my YouTube channel you can see I did some testing with no Vx last year and was very disappointed. That said no Vx and TAPS3 is great! So there is obviously a way to make it work.Originally posted by bsreid View PostPersonally I would ditch the VX and try some more of these gates or go with taps 3. The automated system is awesome.
With your suck ramp I would try flipping the ramp so it’s angled the other way and making it be placed over top of the suc gate so it’s not as likely to fall off.
FWIW all my tabs and gates are attached to the Vx so removing it would mean actually drilling holes.
I have a new design on the suck ramp pending. Hopefully testing it Friday.

So here is my most recent installment. I had access to a Mission Delta so I tested it against my original home made suck gate. I also tested the old Centurion tab design. Results are below.
https://youtu.be/PBEyHpN_7Lw
Firstly, the Mission Delta and suck gate very close in result. I'd say the home made design was slightly better. If you run the video and place your mouse point on the peak of the wave, then put your fingers on the horizon, you can assess how it changes. The Centurion tab looks far smaller buts its actually because this large tab forces the bow down too much.
I tried surfing all three waves and the Centurion tab was un-surfable.
I am prepared to say that Adding a tab and keeping the Vx is not possible. So the original idea I had on page 1 just doesn't work. The Vx itself dampens the wave to the max possible. Any more dampening through a tab design just makes the wave smaller. The shape of the tab only affects the shape of the wave (as can be seen in my other two videos) Since the wave is too small, none of that matters.
So I'm left with two options:
1) Create a formal gate design. The gate design works... it's been proven on every brand. With the Vx you get a nice clean wave with a good peak.
2) Ditch the Vx and go with a TAP3 retrofit. Still not entirely sure this is possible, however it's now in the running. My first surf on a RZX2 with TAPS3 was very underwhelming. I found it inferior to my video above. However I'm not about to blame the TAPS3 for that... I think setup had a lot to do with it. I'd love to test a Z1 with TAPS3 before I make any final decision.

So basically the tab is across the suc gate on a 45* angle, mounted to the side of the boat. I’ll grab try and get out with him tomorrow and see it in action. The guy who made this is a believer that the VX is useless in these scenarios.

You are correct in that it makes no sense. I want to see some pics and video!Originally posted by bsreid View PostOk so Johnnie, a friend of mine might be on to something. It’s a similer like wing design that you came up with except it sunk down the port side and created this monster of a wave on the goody stb side. I know, I know, it makes no sense whatsoever but he was amazed and now I just need to get out and see it in action.
I have another video edit to post tonight. I got to compare a Mission Delta to my Suck Gate. I also tried a new tab. Stay tuned!

So what is this wing look like? Angles, orientation, etc? Maybe some pictures?! Sounds very interesting!Originally posted by bsreid View PostOk so Johnnie, a friend of mine might be on to something. Okay... So major fail. The new surf ramp won't stay connected over 6mph. I somewhat expected this. The force is applied too far forward of the suction cup. I have an alternate design which might work but I will have to wait for another week. No tools here.....

The results were amazing. Not a tige, but here's a link https://comoxvalley.craigslist.ca/bo...207441115.html

Here's what I mentioned months back about surf gate with a little angle on the bottom to help the water go the right way. IMG_3535.JPG

When I go out with a buddy next I might try angling the suck gate down and see what happens
