**WARNING. Do not buy a product called SuckGate . I thought it was a fairly inexpensive option for a wakeshaper. It initially worked well, however the safety cable wasn't crimped and we lost it. The manufacturer Paul Laviolette admitted that there was an issue. but after 30 days has not replaced it. Wont return calls or email. Product was supposed to have a 2 year warranty. I also think he is selling on ebay under the name Surf Genie. not a man of his word. Paul Laviolette also has a new surf board company called Kanuk Board Co. Save your money and stay clear of this guy.

This was clearly an issue with the crimp on the safety cable. A floating one is the plan next . Nauticurl looks like they released a floating one . Any experience with that brand?

I find it's better to attach the safety cable to a bouy instead of the boat. I lost my original one I made as it broke the rope that I used. My 2.0 version is attached to a bouy so if it rips off it's not lost.

Paul has since called and we have worked out the issue and he is sending me a new gate.

Tip: use a tool lanyard to tether to boat

                    Anyone tried the Roswell deflector?

Just to add to the conversation, I use the SWELL wakesurf shaper that sells for $229 on amazon but I believe I had some sort of discount and got it for $200 directly from them. Either way, it performs better than expected on my 2005 22i with/without ballast. The difference of ballast comes in when I try to surf versus my kids. They can ride without the rope regardless of ballast whereas I need about 600#'s in the rear locker and behind the engine (Direct drive) to let go of the rope.jakewake.jpgsamwake.jpg

Attaching the gate to your boat makes it possible for the gate to bang into your boat if it detaches. Much better option is to tether it to a float of some sort (I use a small bumper) so if it comes off it just pulls the float out of your boat and you circle around and grab it. I've heard too many stories of gel coat damage from these things to risk it myself. I've also heard about riders getting hit with them.

                            ^^ This!!

The tool lanyard seemed nice until the gate fell off. It recoiled back in to the boat and chipped the gel coat. Another time it came back and hit a passenger. It is now attached to a fender. (chances are the stories you heard were mine)

I do remember seeing your account of that JohnieMo. I also saw it happen to a friends 22V just the other day. Funny thing was he just stuck it right back on even after I warned him. He'll learn the hard way I guess.
