Our Z3 made a great surf wake before. Squid's R20 made a great surf wake before the VX. Its just better with. Its super clean and smooth, and it makes it a bit longer, but also makes the surf wake effectively longer. The VX knocks down the curl at the back and so you can ride back farther without the curl obstructing you.

The 22V makes an incredible wave, for instance, I love that wake. The one on Dave's 22V is outstanding. But I bet something like the VX would make it even better for the reasons I mentioned. RJ would make me take it off, or refuse to ride if it was better without.

I personally don't think I would like to tow a boat down the road that has a contraption on the back of it that looks like a fish mouth. I am just a little perplexed is all that this extreme of a peace had to be added to a boat that cost 90K plus to get a decent surf wake. If the boats were still around a reasonable price point of 50-60k I could understand. Any thoughts.
To answer your first question, yes and no. Confusing right? Ok so the intent of VX is to clean and extend the surf wave. I can tell you the wave is amazing. I have surfed many boats, Enzo's, Supremes, Malibus, Nautiques and my favorite wave as most of those who own those other boats love our RZR with VX. Long pocket, and dialable from either a nice smooth skim style wave on taps 1 to a taps 8 with a steep rampy surf style wave.

So to answer the question about a wakeboarding wake. The VX does not come off for wakeboarding. Yes the prop spray on our boat is considerably less. Is it gone, no. At wakeboarding speeds the VX is no longer engaged on the water but the spray that we have noticed is less.

For us, we now have a 22' hull that fits our garage like the 20' hull did. Back it in and not have to remove swim platform like we would have for an RZ2 or a Z1. We pull our boat everywhere we go. We have an amazing wave in a very dialed in boat that is consistent every time.

@SPBFAN, are you still out of the Bakersfield area? I would love to see you and catch up, meet your kids. Lets set up a meet half way, like in the delta we would love to give you and your family a great ride. That 24V makes an outstanding wake, but I think you will really like our wake and how we can adjust for riders like RJ down to riders like Jesse.

We were thinking about heading down to the Lake Mead reunion again, but not sure if we can make it. Are you going to be there this year?

Like Ragboy said, the wave before was good, it is just better with the VX. My favorite part of our new shape to the wave is we have this clean open face landing area when you come charging from the back for landing airs.

our current Tige R20-VX wave..speed is 11 (standard starting speed of comps)...taps at 5...let me remind everyone that 5 was not obtainable before the VX. The wave is harder..more dense making it faster.....Look for our wave in Doum's Liquid Force 2014 photo shoot.....

week 3 with our new r20 w/VX and here are some shots of the best we could get so far. We only have stock surf ballast and generally I kept the front full (400), rear surf side full (600), and loaded most or all of the peoples on board to get a 9-10 degree list. That was generally 2 kids in front (about 160) and maybe 4-7 adults in back (600-1,000). The wave is super fun.

Also the taps is not altering the wave as much as I anticipated. I seemed to keep it at 5-6 all week as anything lower or higher gave me more whitewash. I have no experience without the VX so not sure if it is affecting the taps.

In Rapid City, 15-20 minutes from town you can hit Pactola Lake, which is one of the most beautiful lakes I have been on. It is pretty close to the intersection of Hwy 44 and 385
If you are going to be farther north by Spearfish Orman Damn by Belle Fouch is pretty good as well.

South of Rapid City at Hot Springs is a warmer lake, Angostura, and you would enjoy that as well.

                    I prefer Pactola myself.

I would like to see a weighted wakeboard wake with the Convex VX. I'm talking about 2000-300 pounds of ballast around 22-23 mph. Anyone have any pictures of that?

That's a funny question for us that we will answer this weekend. Since owning our boat purchased in April, we have yet to do any wakeboarding behind it. But at our camping trip this weekend to Pactola we have an annual family gathering in memorial for my cousin who drowned in Pactola where we get about 60 people together and camp, play on the water, guitars by the campfire and celebrate my cousins life and the lives we all live. I know we will have some people that will want to wakeboard behind our boat. We will make sure the go pro is running.

convex vx should have zero effect on the wakeboard wake, it is out of the water at wakeboard speeds. Only thing I could see is that it could reduce the "rooster tail"

I saw that too, the rooster tail is knocked down with the VX, but wake seems the same.

Ok so after an incredible camping weekend with so many great friends and family. I have some video to edit and get uploaded to YouTube. I did want to add as a teaser to this. We got the wakeboarding video and have documented the ballast setup and approximate people weight. But what I am most excited about is how good the surf wave was. We got 12 people on the boat for a late evening session on the water and the wave was SIK! The sad part is after we were done surfing we realized we left taps at 1 so we didn't get to see how steep the wave could really get. But the "push" not a fan of the term but the ability to ride so far back and easily recover was nuts. Can't wait to post the video. I am previewing it all on from my GoPro on my tablet at work and the wave is just crazy sik! Stay tuned.

You will want the VX and the ballast that SQUID/RAGBOY is working on a group buy in another thread! There is nothing like this that I have seen video or ridden behind and if it can be done with just ballast and a couple of people versus having to load all that people weight. STOKED!!!
