I was thinking to myself after I posted that question - the reinforcement doesn't invalidate it anymore than if it BROKE into two pieces!!!

I'll run by Lowes for some plywood and caulking and maybe Target for the Santa hats!

Wow, that must be a chinese built one. The one I have is pretty solid as far as I remember but I wasn't trying to surf it...

LOL - the market is flooded with cheap Chinese taboggins! Actually this thing had a sticker proudly proclaiming "Made in Canada". It's a gorgeous Ash, but the runners are only 1/4" thick, so it's pretty twisty/floppy. I think Nick is right, slap a sheet of 1/4" ply over the cross members and it'll be stiff enough to get up and out of the water.

Lwndr - that's funny. I'll have to start a Surftaboggan build thread.

OH! Scored the Santa hat's but no Rudolph figure to be found anywhere.

            How to build a surftoboggan

I had some scrap 1/4" ply laying around and screwing that onto the crossmembers did stiffen it up, but the spacing of the crossmembers is making the top sheet feel a little flimsy. I had some "great stuff" lying around also, and thought that might kill a few birds with one stone. It'll seal up the gap between the boards, maybe offer a little extra floatation and I'm hoping will give just enough support to prevent our feet from breaking through the top sheet.

            It's ready!

...and you can see the gap filled with the foam. Hopefully it's enough!

I don't know if this will be official anymore now that you have added a buoyancy device to it (the foam).

the foam is a "core" and also supplies enhanced flotation so should not invalidate. Also take duct tape in case it breaks - fix it right up!

Safety first! We do a little pre-surftoboggan head gear check. We're almost ready!
