2017 Z1 intermittent no start / fuel pump?

Also a sudden loss of power while throttled up doesn’t seem like something that would stem from a bad fuel pump connection since that does give a more gradual loss of power not a sudden one

The problem I first had was coming off throttle from surfing, when throttling up, that’s when she loss power… played with the connection was able to get her back running… but this was after having swapped out the fuel pump multiple times… I knew the problem couldn’t be the fuel pump… it is going to be a process of elimination to figure this out… so start from the smallest/ cheapest fix and work from there. If your relays are good, next would be the harness… if problem still persist… then look into replacing the fuel pump. I also do the fuel filter every year. Keep us posted, hope it all works out for you

I had a very similar issue on 2011 Z1 and was finally able to trace down to a rusted fuel filter that would move enough to start sucking in air instead of fuel when I went to throttle up. I replaced this with a plastic filter for $7.00 from Orielys and have been good ever since.

Disagree, pull your fuel pump fuse when underway and see how fast it dies.

I had the thought that instantly dying should be spark, not fuel. The 2 reasons I thought it may have been fuel were I was in a gnarly storm, so maybe it sputtered or something, and I just couldn’t hear it, I only noticed when it actually died, I can’t say for sure on that, but it did seem to die instantly. 2nd it did throw a code for fuel pressure less than normal, or something close to that, making me think it was fuel. At the same time, I took probably close to 10 waves over the front, while the boat was filling with rain, something could have gotten wet that I don’t want wet, and did who knows what to something. I do know that I lengthened those wires, and it hasn’t done it since, but I also haven’t been caught in those kind of conditions, and hopefully don’t for awhile, so I may never know what caused it, or if it’s coming back.

I replaced the wire on the fuel pump with the indmar factory one $80 shipped seemed steep, but I’ve only been on one voyage since August weather seems like fall here, and I had zero issues. It actually ran and idled much better than before. Fingers crossed it stays that way, trying to get on the water a couple more times at least

Unfortunately this is now back, first ride out today and the fuel pump only primes intermittently

Does anyone have a cross reference for the fuel pump? I theyre sold out and my marina doesnt have one. "Pump, Fuel, In Tank, 3646-01"

Lemme see if I can find the one I ordered. Tige literally changed the factory part number with a sharpie, on mine at least, by one digit. I think it was more than double the price to buy from a local boat shop.

you may be able to find that part number, that sharpie “8” was over the top of another number. When I get to my laptop, I’ll see if I can find the order confirmation, which might have more info. I got it from something like Great Lakes Skipper, or something close to that.

interesting, 3658-01 is in stock at inboards online. Idk if they’re anywhere else cheaper.

Crazy mine is new.. it’s in a 2017 and the pump is dated 2023. This is a massive problem if these are going out at this rate

That’s wild, I replaced my whole fuel system because I had been chasing a gremlin for like 4-5 years, that would just show up once in awhile. I don’t know that have caught him, either. I had a dealer work on my fuel pressure issues when it was under warranty (really just a code that was throwing it into limp, I think the actual pressure was fine), but I ultimately don’t know that the issue is even resolved. I just changed the components that were before the rail, assuming something would fix it, it could be a bad ground or something that I’m not even seeing, as mine is so infrequent, I never know if I actually fixed it.

if i do get a new fuel pump, whats the replacement process like? Do i have to relieve pressure before disconnecting the line? and how to you even connect the new line?
