Can this Cooler drain be fixed?

mtnsmith has the correct fix. My dealer fixed mine and said the factory fix is to remove the cooler and put a hose clamp on the tube under the cooler. It won't get pulled out and the caulking is still used to make it water tight.

Hose Clamps!!! That would be so much easier then my Dowel rod Idea.




Oh well, at least I was drinking beer when I fixed mine....

Isn't that drain pipe copper?

I would question the use of stainless on copper. With the moist environment wouldn't it cause electrolysis?

Probably, but it's nice not to have to carefully remove the drain plug everytime. Besides if it gets too corroded you can replace it in a few years. They are not very expensive, only $5.99 at boatersworld or west marine, plus it says "corrosion resistant brass".

Or put a small piece of rubber hose on before you put the clamp on.

I was also thinking maybe of putting a stainless hoseclamp on the bottom, that way if it does spin, it would atleast stay down though???

I like the 3m fix so far, or any idea that that prevents the spin. First and formost, I believe I have to fix the "spin in place" issue to prevent water from escaping and draining out. The plug tightens in the drain only when twisted.

One more idea that came to mind on these last posts: go with the different plug type that "flips" instead of "twists". Then a clamp, and etc. might work just as well.
