a good friend of mine had a Thunder Jet, I would not ride with him He also would buy a brand new 12k sled and then buy about 15K worth of after market parts including pulling the engine and sending it in to be upgraded and completely rebuild the thing

Not much different than a 19 - 25 old buying a $60K+ truck then putting $15K in stereo, wheels, lifts, chrome, etc..

The big difference might be your buddy may have been able to afford it.

I haven't been on your route 2 but it probably better than route 1. I went in that area to look for some lakes last year. Lots of nothing on small roads.
