Also, all of this is not to say that what you are saying doesent happen, but again it comes down to being educated and dealing with people you can trust.

And if the new boat lets go in a similar manner, you're still stranded and your wife is still sideways in your A$$. That part never changes. What else did said idiot do? Short of there being a hole in the hull, what else is there to a boat aside from the drivetrain? Granted, a thorough used inspection is warranted. And somewhat of an education or familiarity with mechanical things.Originally posted by elevatedconcept View PostThe flip side is, you have to deal with said problem, and worse the day at hand when it lets go, leaves you stranded and your wife is in your *** sideways. Then you have a boat with a question mark.......... what else did that said idiot do? Its all hypothetical, but the reality is some dont want to deal with it whether you or I would or not.
I am just razzing you. I personally and philosophically do not buy new items--unless--there is a meaningful leap in capability that I just cannot wait to get. I bought my MB on a new 2013 demo deal from Canada--so I have an unrealistically aggressive philosophy. Maybe a bit spoiled this time around.
I will say this, the $75-80K 2015 Z3 that you referenced--what did the dealer allow that guy on trade when he sprung for his 2016 Z3? I understand that the 2015 is -for sale- at $75-80K, but what was the real hit to the previous owner? Honestly asking, I have no idea what dealers mark up on used boats that were traded in...Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like bananas!

Lets use an early 16 z3 for example.......
purchase price of 89k OTD. 87 hours on the boat, resold for 84k and change..... my point is its not as grand as you might think given the demand in the used market.
What was the trade allowance on that boat?Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like bananas!

I share a similar mentality in regard to buying things new, im just saying I understand both sides of the coin. One isnt right over the other because things are worth differently to people.
Most people cannot take care of a boat, most people cant take care of anything really so in regards to buying used I get those with the I have to buy new mentality.
Yes new boats can let go, but if we are playing odds here ill stake mine on the latter.
As for the boat I referenced. That boat was sold privately on the lot before the customer purchased a new boat, it sat maybe a month total.. there was no trade in or pre conceived amount. Boat was sold, owner then purchased something new, completely different brand actually.Germaine Marine

Especially when the market as a whole takes substantial jumps year to year as it has been doing......Originally posted by Bakes5 View PostOk...so it was not a trade in.
That's the beauty of $110k MSRPs. You can buy a 1 yr old boat for $84k and think you saved $24k when in fact, you only saved $5000.Germaine Marine
