    I think in the grand scheme of how much it is going to cost, the cost of the board is not that much.

    3/8 would seem to be plenty thick, and this piece is 24X54. I am not sure how many of them you would need, but I would hope for 3, so you could have great base material for less than $300.

      I agree on the 3/8". More than thick enough. $84 for 1/4 (basically) of a sheet? That's crazy. When doing my ballast mod last winter, I paid $75 for a full sheet of 3/4" marine ply.

        I am replacing the transom of my old Laser bass boat and just purchased a sheet of marine ply 3/4 for 75.00. Thin out some fiberglass epoxy resin and put on a couple of coats. Soaks righ in and seals up all the edges and pores in the wood. Should last another 28 years like the first one (I hope).
