    2012 RZ2 - Right first boat?

Hi all, I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a 2012 RZ2 Saltwater Series.

The PCM ZR409 engine was replaced under warranty in 2015. New engine has <300 hours, hull has <500 hours.

Boat has never been in salt water, has been kept on a lift in a boat house. Maintained annually at a Tige certified dealer. Buying from original owner. Original trailer included.

I asked the owner if he would have a Marine Survey done on the boat and he agreed, so I'm awaiting that report.

Boat looks like it was fantastically optioned, full Wet Sounds stereo system, 2000 lbs of ballast, everything.

    That's the boat.

We are a family of four. Kids 11 and 9. Both very athletic and love getting out on the water. This would be our first wakesurf boat though.

My question is, is this a solid boat to start with? We can technically afford more but I don't necessarily want to spend the full budget as I know there will be plenty of other expenses. Mainly I just want to be sure we'll be happy as beginner surfers with the wave.

Also, I surf goofy foot, so am I gonna have to wait a while to drain one side and fill the other?

    Appreciate any insights and advice!

    Thanks, Andrew

I don't surf; what do you and your family like to do? If it's only surfing, go for it. If y'all like to do differing water sports, drop back a couple of years and find you a nice 22ve or 24ve. They don't excel at any one thing, but are pretty good at everything. Specialty boats, like surf boats, or ski boats, are awesome at what they're designed to do, but other activities are a crapshoot.

Thanks for the reply. We want to do a little bit of everything, but priority is surfing. I would love to look at a 24ve, but my options are limited to boats with the saltwater package, which severely limits my pool of boats to choose from. I know if I continue to wait, other boats will pop up, but we've already been waiting.

I had a 2010 rz2 and kept it for 10 years. the only issue I started having was the handles to lock the tower in start loosening up after being on the water and riding over waves. then it would start knocking because the tower was loose. Tige sent me should shims to use but they wore out.

saying that a great boat and I loved it. if the 2012 doesn't have like a round turn handle to drop the tower then that newer model probably doesn't have the same tower mechanism that the 2010 had

Thanks for the info! I'll look out for that when I go do the sea trial.

I have a 2012 RZ4 and my family of four love it. We surf a lot. We try to go 2-3 times a week. With the right ballast setup I'd think you'd be very happy with boat. A great stereo system just adds great flavor as well. Mikes Liquid audio has custom bags for your boat.

Glad to hear it! The boat was optioned with 2000 lbs of ballast, so I'm confident that will be enough for us as beginners. It also has the high end Wet Sounds sound system, which appears to be in excellent shape. I can't wait to hear it.

How is the listing and bow rise when surfing in your RZ4? I'd love to hear your surf setup in terms of how you distribute the ballast and what TAPS setting you use.
