Thanks for the caution, but I'm not sure what you mean by "Internet" engines. I have no supplier nearby, nor a marine shop that would do anything other than buy their parts through the Internet. I've purchased a long block from ATP Engines, after speaking with a representative at length. I'm replacing a Quicksilver long block (which replaced the original engine), which we cross-referenced with their long block. Performance stats are the same (333 hp), so as best I can figure it's the same configuration as the Quicksilver.

They made a point that the engines are assembled from new parts, filled with oil, spun up to validate oil pressure, etc., then drained and prepared for shipment. Comes with a 1 year warranty, so I don't know what else I could check.

Truly, thanks for your concern; it keeps me on my toes. Hopefully they don't get squished under an engine block.

    Have a good one,
    Mike

What's crazier to me is that, because NONE of the eight cracks went into the combustion chamber, spark plug hole, or to the cylinder sleeve, the engine ran fine for the probably 1 hour total that I ran it. So I believe the previous, um, "ignorant" is the best word I can think of, owners probably had no idea the engine was mortally wounded.

By "Internet engines" I mean ANY source other than OEM. Again, the camshaft specs MUST be the same between the two engines or it will not run correctly. Can you give me the Quicksilver serial number from that block and if you have it, the original engine serial as well.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

Here's the Quicksilver data plate. I don't have any info on the original engine.

Just a quick update: we're in the middle of swapping out the engine, hopefully getting the new one back in the boat Monday. Boatwakes, it's not an OEM replacement (I've heard GM has cut back on a lot of their marine crate motors, but haven't pursued that), but so far it's good from a form/fit outlook (still to validate the "function" part). I truly appreciate your concern and comments, hopefully they'll help future users.

With a little luck, first "sea trials" by the end of next week.

Thanks for all the comments, and have a good one,
            Mike
