    Steering Lubrication

I have a 95 tige 2002 fslm and the steering seems very stiff to the right. When we got the boat the salesman told me it was supposed to pull right because it makes it easier to pull a straight line through a slalom course, which makes some sense. At the time it was slightly harder to steer to the right than it was to the left. Over time the steering to the right has gotten very stiff.

My question is there any kind of maintenance needs to be done on the steering in my boat? There is a hard plastic hose under the dash that has a coil running through it. The coil moves as you steer the wheel back and forth. Are you supposed to grease that coil? If so how and with what kind of grease? Any help will be appreciated.

My dealer recommended to lubrucate the cables and linkages about every 100hrs or annually and any boat dealer near you should have the appropriate grease do do the job.

sounds like the steering cable might be gone. Since the boat is several years old it would not be a bad idea to have it changed out. I would contact your dealer and they will be able to assist in that area. Hate to see you lose any part of your boating season.

I have a 98 Pre 2200V and had to replace the steering cable last summer. Mine broke at the worst time it was just before dark with no one around. Replace it now and save the hassle. It is not that hard to do just take your time. The hardest part was getting the bolt off. It cost me as much to ship the cable to me overnight as it did for the cable, so do it ahead of time and save some money.

CTRider, how much did your steering cable cost you if you dont mind me asking? My steering is tight and I am not sure if the cables went out or if they need to be lubed.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'll be getting a new steering cable. Do I need to go to Tige for this part or will a dealer stock it?

Your dealer can get it for you or you can go to West Marine or any online source for the cable. Try greasing real good with white lithium grease first. But if it is 9 years old and never been replaced, just replace it. Your probably talking about $150+/- for the cable.

Matt, I do not recall off the top of my head what the price was but I will look tonight and post it. I purchased mine direct from Tige because I did not have a local dealer.

                  Matt,

I paid $170.00 but this was with overnight shipping fron TX. I believe the cable was $100.00 and the shipping $70.00
                  Hope this helps.

I would check out Skidim as a good source for cable, also.

                        steering is tight

Where do you lube the cable? Under the gauges? Unplug the cable and put the lube in? Or is there a place to that is designed to put the lube in? Thanks. How long did it take to do replace the cable? How long did the dealership to replace the cable? How much did the dealership charged to put on the cable?

Random question off subject. Are both guages suppose to light up with the lights on?

                        Thanks in advance.
