Tried starting the boat last week and as I turned the key it sounded like it was going to start but died after a second. Tried it again after 2 more attempts and it started up perfect. I ran the boat for about an hour or more then turned it off and did the same thing. Not sure if it is the battery, I have two and both are only a year old. Everything else on the boat works fine with no problems at all. So, what do you all think it could be? Battery, starter, altenator or something else? Would like to know if its something I could do before I take it in. BTW, its an 01 23V with a 350 Mercruiser. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. You may have air in your fuel system. Try bleeding the system. You may have dirty fuel injectors also. Try running some Chevron Techron fuel additive with your next tank of gas. I have tried most of the other additives and have the best success with the Techron. You may also try cleaning your distributor cap. The contacts inside the cap can get corroded and make it hard to start. My distributor cap and rotor get so corroded that I replace them every three or four years. -
STARTER CILINOID IS WET. IT WILL WORK FINE AFTER IT DRIES OUT. ONE MORE MERC PROBLEM.

ALSO REMEMBER THAT IF YOUR BATTERY GETS WEAK IT WILL STILL TURN THE ENGINE OVER, BUT WILL NOT HAVE THE JUICE TO FIRE THE ELECTRONIC IGNITION.....UNTIL YOU RELEASE THE KEY THEN IT WILL CAUSE A SLIGHT BACK FIRE. JUST ENOUGH TO COUNTER ROTATE THE ENGINE AND CAUSE THE FINGERS IN THE IMPELLER OF THE WATER PUMP TO GET JAMED IN THE HOUSING AND LOCK-UP THE PUMP.
THEN YOU HAVE TO LOOSEN THE BELT AND TURN THE PUMP PULLY BY HAND TO GET THE IMPELLER BACK TO THE NORMAL DIRECTION.Comment
