Transmission or V-drive Clunking & Prop won't turn Freely without catching

I have a 2003 Tige 24V with the 5.7 MarinePower engine and Walter's V-drive. Today we launched onto the lake and right away notice a loud clanking noise, stopped the engine paddled back to shore. AS we headed back to shore I opened the hatch and tried to diagnose, so I had my wife start it up and just barely engage the transmission and the clucking seems to be coming from the v-drive or transmissio area.

Got it home and noticed I can turn the prop shaft freely for only about 20-40 degrees then it seems to "catch" and won't turn further without a lot more force, then it will turn freely again and then catch again 20-40 degrees later. Some catches are more subtle, some are very difficult to spin past. It seems to be catching something in the v-drive area. I checked the 4 coupling bolts and they seem fine.

    Any ideas?

Could be your drive plate going bad.

Pull the v-drive, chipped gear tooth the output side. Just have another one ready to install, wait times for repair right now are long.

Do you mean have another gear ready to install, or just a new v-drive?

New v-drive to avoid down time.
