    Dropping the rudder out.

I need to drop the rudder out to do some gel coat repair, nothing major just the spider cracks, anyway is there any special things I need to do when re-installing it (packing, grease,........) im taking the whole plate and everything out of the boat and I want to make sure it will be water tight when re-installing. If any one has any tips or things I need to know please clue me in.
    Thanks

Pulling the rudder and port can be a pain. Depending on the trailer, you might have to either lift the back of the boat or slide the boat back on the trailer about a foot. Reason for this is the prop gaurd is sometimes too close to the bottom of the boat not allowing the rudder to drop far enough down to clear the bottom of the boat. Other than that all you have to do is remove the zurk fitting from the port body and be sure to clean all the old silicone off before re-installing.
When you put the rudder back in, after installing the port, be sure to get the brass keystock back in place. This can be done after you re-install the bolt that holds the tillerarm on the rudder post. Just tap it down into the slot.
If you can find it, use 3M Marine Adhessive. This stuff works great for sealing and it is white. Don't be shy with this stuff, you can always clean the extra off.
