If you have time and are mechanically inclined I would say go for it.
A lot of parts are salvageable.

Heck, if everyone thinks the motor is already toast, what would it hurt to try and dump the oil, pull the plugs and soak the cylinders with wd-40. Try and lubricate as much as the engine as possible and try to fire it up.

I think you would be surprised on how much stuff will survive. I've had stereo amplifiers fully submerged in water, still hooked up to power but OFF, I let them dry and they still worked.

If you find out your in over your head, You could easily part everything out a recoup all your expenses. The tower alone would bring in a huge chunk of money.

Does the auction include the trailer? The trailer alone has got to worth at least 3K. I think you could part it out and get well north of 5K out of it.

Hell I would be interested in the tower.

Gosh maybe I will buy it!JK. I think it would be a fun project though and someone with time and a little knowledge I don't see this being that hard. Aren't the ecms waterproof of resistant?

Wiring harnesses, gauges, stereo, engine rebuild, tranny rebuilt, v-drive rebuild, clean the thing. Gel work and you would be good to go. I'm sure I am forgetting tons

My buddy sank his IO and he didn't do much and his boat still runs good 8 years later.

Diesel sounds awesome but our lake doesn't have diesel fuel on the water. Which is a no go for me.

AWESOME! Thanks g! Gentlemen, the project has started. Duffy, absolutely you can rebuild the motor, but... it's a MEFI 5 system and it will need a new ECM and wire harness on the motor which total about $2500, machine work on the engine would be punch it .020 over (max allowable on the vortec roller blocks) regrind cam, new pistons and rings, bearings, timing etc = $4800, new exhaust manifolds = $1200, rebuild the driveline = $2500-3500. Basically the price as new or factory reman but I want this boat for our Yanmar transplant, it's exactly what we've been looking for. FYI, 1999 Tige 2100i coming up for sale soon...

That's just so you have a guideline for repair. You will not be able to do everything for under $20k but more likely in the high 20's to low 30's. Where is this boat? I've been looking for a 24Ve to put a Yanmar into but this would also be a candidate, of course if you don't want it first.
I just got off the phone with the shop, they said they put together a quote for the owner and it was between $60k-$70k. He said that some of the parts for the boat do not exist and they would need to be custom made or upgraded to the newer Tige's. From what I do know. The boat is going up for auction, I do not know when. From what the mechanic told me the boat is not worth fixing up.

I bet the interior would be fine. Just really clean it well. Like they said, new wiring harness, new gauges etc... Could he just rebuild the motor?

I would be curious to know what they told you. PM me. I know his is at high adventure motor sports... and I can promise the engine will need to be re done.. so plan on that.

what is crazy is that boat was sunk less then 24hrs from what I was told and the amount of dirt and and in it was insane to me.

I don't know the lake but I know there are some that have minerals in the water that will eat / rot the wiring so you will have to replace all the wiring. Looks like the shower pump was already cut out. Some of those other pumps are for inflatables and not part of the boat.

From what I have done on my boat, minor things, you would think that many of the parts readily available yet are not. Some you have to go through Tige, your local dealer, and the prices are not what you might think. You might not be thinking about getting it to its original condition / parts (rigging things to work) but if you ever plan to sell it that may be an issue. It is all the little things that will add up. You may have mysterious issues pop up as well.

Just to give you an idea, I needed to replace a circuit breaker for the blower. You look on line and they are readily available and a couple of bucks. The one that was used couldn't be found easily and once it was it was $20.

If your going to do it then I would replace everything. Are you looking to get out and enjoy the water or are you looking for a project to tinker with then flip and make some money?

Even at $25K I don't think it would be worth it and I think you would be pressed to do it for that but could be wrong.

If you do decide to do it, it would be interesting to see your progress and exactly what you have to do.

Are you going to do the restoration your self, or does that $20K include the labor? If that is including labor, I dont see that boat being usable again for $20, but if are planing on doing the work, its possible.

How long has it been since it was under water? The boat looks like it was under for awhile as well. If the engine and drive train where not returned to working condition ASAP after being pulled from the water, they are all toast and will need to be replaced or overhauled.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

    Recently Sunk 2008 Tige RZ4

My wife and I are considering purchasing a recently sunk 2008 Tige RZ4. We have a limit we would be willing to spend in repairs. We think we can buy the boat for $5k and are hoping to get away with repairs under $20k.

The boat sank while tied up near the shore. It sank due to high winds and massive waves getting into the boat at a local freshwater lake.

    What we know:
    - The hull is scratched up but ok
    - The boat was completely submerged (see photos)
    - No idea if they trying to save the engine

So, what do you guys think?
