    PLEASE HELP!! Steering cable question

    Hey everyone,

Im a little new to this site, but could really use your help. I have a 07 RZ2 (original owner) and my steering is extreemly stiff. From what I have read, it seems to be the cable. The only problem is, I have no idea what size, type, brand or anything of what I should get. and I dont want to get involved in replacing it until I have the replacement to throw back in. Any help would be great. Thanks

Pretty sure the brand is Teleflex. If you have access to the boat, try to look carefully at the sheathing on the existing cable (either at the helm or by the rudder connection). It should have a part number stamped on it. I am not 100% sure, but I think that the last two digits show the length.

Or, call a Tige dealer. They should be able to find the correct length for you.

FYI - when you get a new one, request the newer "extreme" version. Supposed to be more corrosion resistant and should hopefully last longer.

Just take the cable out and take it to a marine store, In socal we have west marine and they will get you a brand new one. Its not a hard job just takes some thinking. Im thinking you take your boat out in the ocean, Marine stadium in long beach? I do almost every week and the salt just corrodes the cable faster. No big deal if your like me and meticulously clean the whole boat every time. And for the cable, all wakeboard boats pretty much use a standard cable, nothing special you can't get from a normal boat shop.

I could be wrong but I think yours is like mine where they placed the cable in before the gas tank. If that is the case you will need to make the hole bigger and you can get the same steering cable but make sure you get the new one. I went this route and it wasn't too bad. If oyu search the forums you will get lots of tips. If you check with your dealer you may want to ask if they are going the same route as the old one. Some of the dealers are going up through the wall, can't remember the correct name, towards the front of the boat and making a new hole under the front seat, if you have a heater around the area that they tubes go through. This requires a longer cable. ALso, I would make sure that if you ask the dealer you make sure it is the new one and not one of the old ones.

Just replaced my steering cable. 2 veteran mechanics (me and my friend) took about 3 hours and lots of cutup hands. They put the cable in before the gas tank making it a major PITA. Had to cut out the floor with sawzall to go back in. Like someone else said, get the newer better cable.

Your cable is definitly Teleflex. You will need to contact Tige to find out in advance what length. I found mine on here (22ve) and ordered it online from some marine supply house. Painless (except the labor of course)

On your steering cable there should be some white numbers. I believe the last number is the length so on mine its, SSC13418. The last number is the length which is 18ft. I have an 07 RZ2 but went with the 20 foot. Teleflex should be the make.

Read this post for more info on why I went longer. http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...9&postcount=30
