    Stalling & Alarm

On my last trip to the lake last summer, my 2002 21V with a 350 Merc MPI started falling on its face when put under load halfway through the day. I had it winterized, fuel filter changed, etc. This year I put the boat in the water, she starts fine, revs in idle, backs off the trailer, but dies as I get above 5 or 6 mph. A double beep sounds. If I pull the throttle back, it will usually stay running, but if I leave it, the engine knocks and dies. My thoughts are: water in the gas after being left out in the winter. I had a cover, but water still manages to accumulate in the boat. However, I don't understand the double beep. I unfortunately left the tank half-full over the winter, but with Stabil. I put about 10 gallons in and some Iso-Heet before this last trip hoping to burn off any water. Any suggestions? Will I need to take it in to get the code read? or can I disconnect the battery?

My guess would be the fuel pump, working enough to idle, but as soon as you give it gas - well you know the rest.

gas pump easy to check, you can pull off the hose to the intake, you shoul dhave gas pumping out pretty hard, if you dont hear it clicking, you have a problem, easy to change~ 2 hours and $150 for the pump.

        Relay

Cheapest first, replace the 25 dollar hella fuel pump relay on the top right of the engine... Since there are 2 identical relays next to each other, you can swap them around to see if that eliminates your problem. If it doesn't move onto the pump R&R.

Turned out to be the idle air control. Cheap fix!
