1998 Black Scorpion Muffler- is it necessary?

Long story short, my muffler broke, blocking exhaust flow and leading to choking the engine out. To test this I drilled through the internal baffle allowing a “semi” straight-piped exhaust. There really is not much noticeable sound difference. Obviously it would give less engine back pressure. Would there be any negative impacts long-term on the engine if I don’t replace the muffler? I can’t think of any! I also have a call into Tige to discuss it, but due to unfortunate circumstances on their side the guy I need to talk to may be out for some time.

boat is a 1998 Tige Pre2200v with the 315hp Black Scorpion motor. It has the Ultra marine exhaust.

No, replace it with a piece of rubber exhaust tube and continue your day.

I replaced mine with the Fresh Air Exhaust custom pipes. Easy to do and great quality IMO.
