    Maintence Questions for 2004 20V

I have a 2004 20v with a GM Vortec 5.7L MPI EFI engine (Marine Power)
I would like to do some of the maintence myself. Can some one tell me the Oil Filter Number to use as well of the type of oil. The Marine power manual says SAE 40 (non-detergent) I can not find non-detergent oil.

I would also like to change the Fuel/Water seperator-- where is that located on the engine? I have been looking for a screw on canister type filter much like an oil filter but I do not find anything quite like that. Does anyone know the filter number. Or where the filter is located?

Finally - the V drive calls for SAE 30 non-detergent oil - again I can not find non-detergent oil any advice?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Engine oil: any name-brand 40W engine oil will do, but I prefer to use a Marine Grade oil for it's higher levels of moisture inhibitors.

Fuel filter: it's a paper element type. On your engine, I believe it's located in the filter/cooler/pump housing on the front/port side of the engine. Remove the water line at the bottom of the housing and unscrew the bottom portion of the housing and the filter is inside.

Oil filter: Pick one of the shelf for a 5.7 GM truck engine.

V-drive oil: I get my 30W non-detergent oil from NAPA.

Here is a cross reference for you for oil filters:
          Fram PH30
          AC PF25
          Purolator L20049
          NAPA 1069
Pep boys Filters are purolators and have same number sequence (20049)
As far as oil is concerned some dealers use mercruiser 25-40. others use 20-50, Indmar recommends 15-40 and so does PCM. Are you sure that your manual says non-detergent oil for engine use?

For oil filters any matching one will work. Also the bigger the better. I have heard if you have the room for a bigger filter get it as it keeps the oil cooler or something

I have the longer filter installed on mine. A little tougher to get in and out, but with more filter media I figure it is worth it.

On a 24V, I can't get the oil filter out without tilting it and spilling oil. Need lots of rags. I would be cautious using a bigger filter. It may be easier on a direct drive set up.
