Fresh water cooling 340HP

Hi everyone
I just got my 20v ordered with a 340 HP. I'll be moving to Hawaii soon and want to install a fresh water cooling system for saltwater use. I also ordered the saltwater steering, flush kit and galvanized trailer. Anyone else using their boat in saltwater and installed the cooling kit? Any advice you can offer?

Make sure you add a sea strainer to catch debre, and add ground straps to the rudder rudder port , strut bracket , steering bracket and to the engine.It will prevent steering cable failure.

Well, when we are in Hawaii on vacation, we know who to talk to. I lived there for 4 years and never left Oahu other than scuba diving. It is very beautiful and there can be a lot to do if you find things to do.

There are some very good saltwater write ups on wake world. I know that not too many ppl on here put their boats in salt water

I go in saltwater about 99% of the time. As FIC said, a sea strainer is a must to catch debris. I think they should be on all boats personally. I would also do the grounding procedure that FIC was talking about. I would give him a call (888-517-3178) to get better details if you are not sure what he was talking about. I did it to mine and though I haven't had them on there for a huge amount of time, it should help with steering cable corrosion. I don't have the freshwater cooling, I just flush like crazy and keep everything well rinsed.

Man, I am jealous that you are moving to Hawaii! We are about 10 years away from moving there still. We got married this past March on the North Shore of Oahu at Turtle Bay and as soon as my daughter graduates, (she's only 7) we are selling everything and moving there.

You don't want to live on Oahu. The big island is better and cheaper to live on. The funny thing is, I want to do the same thing.....

I do want to live on Oahu, just on the North Shore! My plan is to open a restaurant up there for our means of living. I've been to the big island and didn't like it at all! Maui was nice too, it's just even more ridiculous cost-wise to live there.

um, the steering cable depends on the model. Anhaney and I called the company and said that the charge has nothing to do with ours, that we have you just have to greese them every so often. So just

You will find in salt water that if you put a volt meter on the steering cable that as the boat moves through the water it generates close to 1 volt or more causeing the cable to weld it self to the housing thats why all stearndrive boats have inter connecting ground cables.

We are moving to Oahu to be with our families. We are excited but as da.bell says, it's very expensive. There are worse places to live though! The trailer is a EZ loader galvanized tube trailer tandem with disc brakes. It was about $4800. I wanted to get a C channel frame but was a grand more from Dorsey. I plan to do the ground strap. I also want to add anodes if anyone knows of good locations for it and also do the closed cooling to keep the motor protected but I'm not sure which kit I need. The Marine Power motor does not seem very popular as far as kits go.

Marine Power has the kits for there motor I have installed them and there reasonable. Give them a call.

I think when it comes to anodes you want one around the shaft near the prop and then they make ones that you can drill a hole through the rudder and put one on. its very thin so I dont think it will affect handling. if you look at the mastercrafts SS they have them on there
