Oil Change Method

What's the best way to drain the oil from the Mercury 350 (year 2000) without getting drain oil all over the engine compartment? Is there a tool I should buy?

I've been using a $25 12v sucker for 10 yrs now. Got it from West Marine. I mounted it on a clear 5 gal bucket, like the one listed in the link. Works great.
