When the boat is not going to be run for an extended period of time I will most likely pull the battery and bring it home. Then, before the next outing make sure it is fully charged. My question is, is it better to purhcase a battery tender or just get a regulary battery charger to do the job?

Get an intelligent charger. Something like this. It will handle two batteries (you can get it for one). I keep it in the boat all the time and when the boat is parked in the driveway the charger is hooked up.Last edited by raythompson; 08-19-2009, 06:18 PM.Ray Thompson

You can really mount it where ever you want. The caveat is that the wires for the batteries have to reach the batteries. After that, you can have the plug go where you need it. I plug mine into an extension cord on the transom. Mine's mounted inside one of my V-Drive lockers and the plug dangles out below the swim platform when I plug it in. I leave mine plugged in all the time when I'm not using the boat. It makes my batteries last twice as long.Originally posted by 2whlin View Postso this unit mounts inside the boat, then you just plug it in when you want to charge your batteries? Any way of rigging an outlet to the stern so you don't have to mess with removing boat cover and climbing in and out etc??Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

About halfway down this thread on the first page you can see my battery charger right next to my battery switch in the V-Drive locker:
