    Tires what to do??

I need to replace my 2 rear tires. I currently have 4 carlisle bias (sp??) tires on the trailer on one as a spare. I'm thinking about buying 2 of the same and calling it good, but thought I would see if what everyone thought.

I did a search and it seems as if some people like the carlisle's and some don't. It makes sense to put radial's on there, but I don't want to change all 4 (or 5) tires right now.

My trailer does sit from Oct --> May, but I haven't had or noticed any problems with flat spots.

Get rid of those bias's right now. I wouldn't even think about towing with those unless you are really close to the water. Radials all the way for long hauls.

I'll second the recommendation on the bias ply, they are worthless.

Get the Goodyear Marathons. I bought some a couple of years ago and they really are holding up well.

GY marathons all the way for me too. When I was younger and hauled horses from roping to roping, we all used Marathons on our horse trailers too. Like a sore D1k, you just can't beat 'em!

I've heard bad things about the goodyear Marathons too. My buddy went through 2 or 3 of them after going through the Carlisles.

Our trailer came with the Carlisles.
We put a full set of Goodyear Marathons on the trailer 3 years ago when we bought the boat.
No problems and they still look great.
I have covers on the side that gets a little sun and block up the axles in the winter.

I had GY Marathons and last year 3 of the 4 separated on a long tow. They were about 4 yrs old. Trailer builder said he has seen literally hundreds separate. GY rep said it is from people running too low air pressure and they get hot. The guy is 2nd generation trailer builder and has sold trailers for like 25-30 years and he says BS, he knows a trend when he sees it. He did some digging and found out that somewhere about 5 yrs ago they changed manufacturing to China and they went in the crapper.
I have transmasters now, decided to try those. Hard to get a decent 14" trailer tire I found. Covers will help keep UV off them but I am too lazy for that.

I have GY Marathons that are 4 years old on a tandem trailer. I don't trailer that often. Boat is stored indoors.

Coming back yesterday the trailer was wobbling from a slow start. I could tell from the side mirror one tire was rotating 'funny'. Stopped in a parking lot and the sidewall tread was separating and a bulge had formed. Plenty of tread left. Glad to find it there where it was easy to change.

I guess this is expected for a tire this old?

EDIT: By the way, I keep the pressure at 50.

Like on our RV the tires will probably age-out before they wear-out.
They should last at least 5 or 6 years.

mneal - what size boat do you have?

How much heavier are the 24v's versus our 21v?

We only go about 1 hr to the lake 10 times a year and it's not very hot out here.
I'll have to really start watching ours tires next year.

So, I ended up ordering 2 of the Carlise Bias tires. It seemed as the easiest solution at this time. I thought about replacing all 5 for some radials, but didn't want to spend the money right now. I went with Carlie's so everything would match.

The tires will be in on Wed.

I should have added in my first post. The inside of my rear tires were really worn. You would have never known unless you stuck your head under there. The guy at Discount said it was because the rear tires get drug around the corners on turns. it was really odd because the outside of the tires looked like new.
