There is a supply and a return hose to the heater core just like a car, if the hoses are coupled together, I'd say the core sprung a leak, probably froze due to not being drained correctly by previous owner (or shop that did winterization)

If you are up to pulling the heater core out, you should be able to match is up at your local parts or radiator shop,,,,mine is out of a Ford Econoline van without AC......

Replaced it 7 years ago and have had no problems since,,,

According to my maintenance records, I paid $30.00 for a new heater core from a local radiator shop. I remember bringing it in, the counter guy/shop owner looked at it and said, "Looks like a 1972 Ford Econoline without AC. Brought out the new one and it matched dead on. I was flabbergasted,,dealer mentioned $100 or $200.....

What a coincidence. I just spent the day cleaning up our boat, changing the oil, putting a new cd player and speakers in and replacing the heater.
I bought the heater off a dealer on Ebay for $169. Its a heatercraft direct replacement. I also added the extendable tube to let the kids wrap up in a towel with the heater tube. Very easy job. Four screws holding the header, two clamps attaching the supply and return hose and snip the pull ties to swap out the heater duct. Works great now.
