Boat Weight

I am looking at the new Z1's It looks like compared to Malibu and others they are 500 to 700 lbs heavier. Anyone know why the difference?

It seems the less weight the less gas when you are just cruising! (Maybe I should get a Green Z1) - just kidding, but with less weight you would get up to speed quicker.

Any thoughts.....

Tige has an overbuilt boat. If you watch the videos on the site (tige.com), you will see why they weigh a little more.

Ive heard that Tige is the most fuel efficient boat.

Malibu's are quick though. They jump out of the hole and have a fast top end.

With the right prop you can get good performance and fuel efficiency.

OK. So then my real question would be - what is the real "mileage". 48 now with a 7 yr old who wants to tube. Otherwise, we'll be cruising up and down the river at say 20 mph for an hour.
FYI - I do like the "overbuilt" focus - I have an old 18' Whaler - and it is getting like a cork with all the boarding boats out there.

Tige is supposed to be the most fule efficient over BU,CC an MC at 6 galls per hour avg.

I will add onto 1lab's post by saying some can calculate their gas mileage at 7 gallons per hour also. But, to be on the safe side, 6 is best.

What boats are you comparing to, that are heavier then the Tige Z1?

Just a couple I knew off the top of my head. The Tige hull will get better fuel mileage and perform as good or better, with less horsepower.

I was looking at a Malibu V-Ride which is 3,200 lbs. There is one 2007 demo left. I think their design goes back about 6 years though - dash is funny after I looked at it again.

- Love curved glass on the z1, and the back end is SEXY.

Now really thinking about just ordering a Z1 and borrowing a buddies trailer to save $3K. We only get about 4 months of good boating weather up here - don't want to even average the price per ride.

GPH of 6 sounds about right.

The V-ride is, from what I understand, about a 12yr old hull design. It has a 93" beam compared to the Z1 @ 100".

No offense, but I would not put the V-ride in the same class as a Z1, Malibu makes no bones about it being an entry level wake boat. The Z1 is a top-notch 21'er

V-ride come with only 500#'s ballast and both the manual and power wedge are options.

The Z1 can be equipped with 600#'s ballast (per factory but we measured and came up with closer to 800#'s) and TAPS is standard on every Tige.

i have looked at a zi and sat in one and i would say that the z1 is an entry level wake boat. i liked it my wife did not but it was not even in the same class as the ve in luxuryat least from my opinion. im not knocking it at all i was on the verge of buying one but decided to go with a used 06 22v with less than 70 hours on it. i was able to get a 22v loaded to the gills at about the same price as a stripped down z1

Look at the VTX or the VLX but not the Vride. I have looked at 1/2 dozen Vrides now and none of them have been impressive to say the least! My wife even told the Malibu salesman at the boat show she was "not impressed" with thier boat. I was a bit embarassed she said it so bluntly She sang a different tune though when we looked at the VTX--no kidding, she would have signed the papers right there on the spot if I had said ok! She was actually pushing to get it and trade ours in. (we didn't thank goodness $$$)

They make an awesome boat FOR SURE, but it is not the Vride.

I have not rode in one yet, but have worked 3 boat shows with my Rep. You can get nearly the same options on a Z1 as a Ve, and many of the same std features.

Same Tige construction
Same Vinyl
Cushions felt just as comfy as my 22Ve
Same drivers seat options
320hp, 340hp, or 360hp
SS rubrail, cupholders, etc

I certainly wouldn't call it a 1' shorter version of a 22Ve, but by no means entry level.

I'm curious about what you see that has it falling short? Please elaborate.

One of the reasons why Tige is heavier is how strong they are built.

2 years ago I had a little accident (collision) with my 22V Tige and a MC.

I got a few scratches on my fiber glass, the MC got a basketball hole on the fiber glass. The MC fiber glass is much thinner than the Tige.

I assume that goes for any other brand out there, Tige boats are just better built and solid.

I have compared the performance tests on my 20V with the 340HP option and from what I see it comes on plane faster than competetive 20 and 21 footers from all the major competitors.

Not only do the tests show(BOATTEST.COM) that it comes on plane faster but it also out accelerates them to 30+mph. When I look at this data I don't understand your comment re: Malibu. Are you implying that the Malibu out accelerates a Tige in the same size range or that they have a higher top end? Can you share the numbers for a 20 to 21 Malibu Vdrive with 340-360hp?
