Well I finished this earlier this year but I just learned how to add a pic. These were originally in a box in a closed compartment. They only sounded good when the compartment door was open. I was concerned about the "open air" debate but overall this sounds much better (not muffled).

A lot of people build an in-place box behind the kick panel, using the kick panel as the front of the box.
I have plans on making this one of my winter projects.
My kick panel flexes a bit when the bass really hits on my sub, so I think the box will help tighten up the sound and reduce any flex."I want to know God's thoughts, the rest are just details"

I like it loud but I really don't "crank it". The locker door is snug and I have not noticed any vibration. When the door is open the quality of the sound goes down but not drastically.Originally posted by dogbert
jsz,
When you crank it up, do you get vibration in your storage locker door? Also, have you noticed a difference between the sound levels with the locker door open vs. closed?

I know it would! That was a huge debate for me. I would compare the sound quality by leaving the speakers unscrewed in the box. I would play a song and then slightly lift each speaker out of the box breaking the "seal" and listen to the difference. Although it was noticeable I felt that the new compartment would act as a box.Originally posted by rushin
I would bet that if you sealed those suckers up in a box they would sound even better!
It looks great.
The pros of gaining space and not having muffled subs far outweigh whatever sound quality I might have lost.
