'00 2100V Limited - Soft Transmission Tick in Forward?

    Hello all,

We own an old Year 2000 2100V Limited, and have noticed a soft tick in transmission area after a long run across the lake.

The sound is very subtle, and seems to not be there at the beginning of the day, but is more pronounced after pulling surfers and wakeboarders. (Also, the sound is not there in reverse.)

Engine: Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI Ski (5.7)
    Transmission: Velvet Drive 10-17-004
    V-Drive: Walter RV-26D

I am wanting to pull the transmission and v-drive this next winter to rebuild them both, as they are starting to show their age, but any thoughts what this tick sound may be?

    Thank you for your time!

Lots of things come to mind. Have you checked the 30W non-detergent in the v drive? Chipped tooth in the V drive? there are so many things it could be. if it only dose it warm I would be looking at the v drive before the transmission. but I am not saying it is not that. LOL. Possible flex plate?

Went out today, pulled a wakeboarder and surfer, and no ticking sound... Lol!

We may be chasing a ghost here.

(Yes, we have good fresh oil in v-drive and fresh ATF in transmission. Changed last week.)

Thanks for the quick response Gumby!

Springs in the drive plate could be going out.

          Roger that Lee.

          Thanks!

When we pull the transmission and V-drive in the winter, I will inspect/replace the damper plate.
