    Charging Batt

Read through all the battery threads, stil have a question.

Is it OK to allow the alt to charge both batteries at the same time even if they are different type; I.E. starting, deep cycle; Engine is running, battery selector set to both?

Is your switch an automatic one?

My 4wd has an auto switch for charging that charges start up battery first and then auxillary battery next. If Both batteries are donw to same voltage charging both at same time would be ok but if they were differant and then you linked them the higher voltage would drain to the lower voltage battery.

I hope the EIDB setting in my new boat due if few weeks has an auto switch but I did not ask when I ordered

Manual switch, start, acc, and both. I have seen the sensing switches too. I am wanting to add, and just trying to figure a price. If I can run with the swith to both, then I wouldn't need to remember to switch after the starting battery was recharged.

It will not cause any harm to charge both at the same time. Just takes a long time as an alt is ment to keep a battery topped off but not to charge one up after it is run dead. best bet it to throw them on a charger when you get back to home base.
