people have talked about getting crazy run times trying to figure it out.

Would be sweet by the pool in the dunes on the sand bar and not worried about your boat battery.

I too have been looking at this idea... onlinecarstereo.com has a few ipod/mp3 player specific amp set-ups for cheap cheap almost free which can remove the "need" for a head unit... they are marine grade as well...

You need to go with digital amps. They use hardly any power compared to the old class D amplifiers.

I am running 3 of these in the boat.

How many speakers are you looking to run? Are you looking for AM/FM/CD or just a means to run an MP3 player?

Battery run time is battery Ah/current draw. I use a 100Ah AGM Shuriken Power Cell on my demo board. I played it all day on Saturday at the boat show with out the charger plugged in. That was at least 2 amp, a pair of in-boast, a pair of tower speakers and sub all running at mid level volume.
