Fuel Gauge Dampener - what is this?

    Hi guys,

This little computer chip was connected into the back of my original fuel gauge. It's labeled as a "fuel gauge dampener". My sender wires were hooked up to "sender in" on the chip (but not directly onto the gauge sender post), GND on the chip (which also hooks up directly to ground on the gauge), and Pwr In on the chip (which does not directly hook into power on the gauge)

    Does anyone recognize this?

I'm not directly familiar with it, but most likely it stops the gauge needle from bouncing up and down like crazy with the slosh of the fuel in the tank. It turns an instant read gauge into a delayed read gauge.

I see. Do most boats have something like this? I’ve never seen one behind another fuel gauge. I think it’s broken and I just want to take it out
