Some would argue, but the fuse at the amp protects the amp. The fuse at the battery protects the wire, and therefore the boat, and your life. It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

FYI, I was being a little goofy. Zad, DO NOT use 16-gage for power wire on ANY amp!Originally posted by Domsz06 View Postif your just using 16 that stuff is CHEAP!! heck you can buy it at wal-mart, autozone, etc.
I was really just kidding around...It's not an optical illusion.

Could he have a wire problem inside the sheethed wire and not be noticable????? That would allow the boat to bump and reset the wires to touch each other again....Originally posted by philwsailz View PostSome would argue, but the fuse at the amp protects the amp. I Just had a thought. I have a 3rd battery In the garage that we dont use. And I wanted to switch the batts in the boat so that the bigger one started and only started and the other one thats not rated for starting can run everything else.Common Sense is not so Common

Yeah, but that fuse will only blow if the amp shorts, The fuse at the battery will kill the power running up to the amp if the wire ever shorted to a ground.....can you say fire, and then the battery explodes

Look at this scenario:Originally posted by Domsz06 View PostI never thought of it that way phil. I may have to move my circuit breakers.
Power wire comes loose from the amp. No fuse. It somehow hits the ground wire, the amp, (which is grounded) or anything else that is grounded. Suddenly the power wire is not a power wire, but a glowing red hunk of copper with a bunch of flammable hydrocarbons going liquid and catching fire along the entire length... Bad enough anywhere... Picture a boat going up on the water... Sinks... Picture it going up in your garage. There goes the house.
Fuse your power wires guys.... Please... Too much at stake...It's not an optical illusion.
