    Factory system problems

Rig is an 08 22ve, has factory clarion system w/ kicker amps, Wetsounds 6.5's, Pro 60's, and 10" sub.

The kicker 700.5 started to go into protect mode after one my sons friends goofed around with the remote volume control for the sub.

I picked up a syn-6 to replace the 700.5, running the 6.5 in-boats on channels 1-2, 3-4, & using channel 5-6 bridged to run the 10" sub. For some reason the sub isn't powering up.

Could the kicker volume control (if defective) be the culprit for the sub not firing?

First, a little about an amp's protect mode. This is not an automatic indicator that the amp is bad, but rather a design feature and self preservation mode. Its the amp reacting to a detected condition, both internal and external. Much like the check engine light on a car. The protect mode an is an indicator telling us something us wrong. We would not want to replace the engine in the car for that CEL, but rather investigate to find the cause. Same with the amp. Since its a design feature, it very well can be an external issue.

Is it possible that the amp settings on the original amp were also tampered with? This could cause the amp to go into protect mode, when the woofer knob was turned up.

Simply turning up or down, the sub level knob would not cause an issue. However, it is possible turning the knob up or adjusting and of the amp settings, resulted in a blown sub woofer. This would certainly lead to the amp going into protect mode.

Now on to the present issue, a sub still not functioning. No, the old kicker knob would not be the cause of the sub not working with a different amp now installed, as these knobs are not universal, so the old kicker knob and cable should have been replaced the with Syn-6 sub level knob and cable. If you are trying to use the old kicker knob, disconnect it.

Settings and RCA configurations can also result in the woofer not working. Hopefully, your Wet Sounds Syn-6 dealer provided you with the proper settings for that particular setup.

A blown woofer would also lead to a non operational woofer. This would have lead to the original amp going into protect mode, and can lead to the new amp to go into protect mode.

In closing, you can not bridge that woofer on chnls 5/6. You need to wire the woofer's leads to only chnl 6. Bridging that woofer will likely put the new amp into protect mode. As noted earlier, protect mode is the amp's design feature, reacting to external issue.

      Thanks for the response.

The 700.5 had already lost channel one on the inboats, so it was time for an upgrade.

What sub would you recommend that could be mounted in the factory location and utilize the potential of the bridged 5-6 channel?

I'm assuming there has been some damage done by the 16-17 year olds whom have been disconnecting and reconnecting their iPhones via the aux cord at unknown volumes. This input has since been eliminated, because teenagers don't listen.

The 4 ohm Wet Sounds XS or SW 10Fa is a true IB woofer that would be the closest plug-n-play if you deem the existing woofer is in deed bad. However, it wont let you take full advantage of the Syn-6 600W rms bridged output. You will likely have it dialed back a little. 600W is pushing the power handling of the 10fa, as well as thats a lot of wattage for an IB woofer. If you want to really take advantage of the wattage, look into the new JL 12IB or go with something like the Wet Sounds XS-12 4 ohm or Kicker CompVR 122 and build an enclosure. If the existing Kicker 10" is found to not be blown, then wire it to chnl 6 and your output will be as it was with the Kicker 700.5.

          Thanks..

Original is in fact a XS10FA, was dual voice coil version and bridged to 1 ohm on that 700.5.. Didn't think that kicker was 1 ohm stable.

Pretty sure the original is toast, voice coil siezed, replacement on the way.

Think I'll run it with the 350.4 and use the 5-6 channel on the sun 6 to power a set of Rev 8's

The 700.5 has a mono, as in one, woofer chnl, so nothing was bridged. If the existing woofer is a 10Fa, is would have been a dual 4 ohm wired in parallel to 2 ohm. The Mono chnls of the 700.5 is 2 ohm stable and will produce 420W rms.

The new one needs to be a 4 ohm, but will be a single voice coil none the less. Running it on the 350.4 is not an option.

I would run the woofer on 5/6, bridge the rev-8's on 1/2 and 3/4 of the Syn-6 and then move the in-boats to the 350.4
