    Questions / tower speakers

    Hi !
    I joigned the Tige owner family 2 weeks ago : just bought a 2010 Z1 !

Unfortunately, there is no tower speaker, just the Clarion system + 4 speakers in the boat.
I read a lot of posts but I still have some (silly) questions :

Does the Illusion X mount fits the Alpha Z tower ?

If so, I spotted 2 "altenative" equipements

    Krypt :
    Cans (300 $)

    speakers (180 $)

    OR

    DIYWake :
    Speakers & cans (250 $)

Krypt are twice more expensive - are they worth it ?

Then the AMP... In my previous boat, I had a Pyle PLMRA420 which was OK and aaffordable.

    Thanks for your advice !

    Regards

    Bravo,

Congrats on the Z1 and welcome to the forum.

One of the reasons for the price difference between the krypt pods and driver and the DIY loaded pods, is because they are different speaker types. What you linked in on the krypt site is a horn loaded compression driver and what you linked to on the DIY site is a traditional coaxial speaker. The HLCD is a higher power handling driver intended for wake range projection. The coaxial is for near-field listening. Even further, the DIY setup is using one of Kickers budget friendly car door speakers. its not a marine speaker and not intended for a tower pod.

Having said that, id suggest steering clear of both of those setups. 1) as noted, the DIY is a car door speaker and not intended for a tower pod setup on a boat. Those pods also come with a poor finish and will start to look like poo after a couple seasons. 2) id suggest not going with a 6.5" HLCD regardless of brand, with the Kicker KMS67 being the one exception. They are overly bright sounding, very aggressive highs due to the lack of mid-bass surface are to balance them out. I will also suggest steering clear of anything from krypt. The dude is a hack and a ripoff. its not that he copies his competitors, but actually tries to revers engineer their products or have then re-branded and slide them out the back door of the build house. He even went so far as to steel a guys gel coat repair pics off wake world and use them as his own in an ebay add for gel repair kits. Give your biz to a more reputable outfit.

I would decide exactly what it is, you want to achieve with a set of tower speakers. If you want wake range projection, go with an 8" or 10" HLCD like the Wet Sounds Rev series. If you want near filed sound quality for surfing and party cove type listening, Id suggest a single pair of 8" coaxial like the Wet Sounds Icon-8 or the 10" Rev-10.
