    Wiring Hack Job

    I got a 2004 22V last year and the stock stereo (Clarion head unit and amp & 6 in-boards) were all working decently. At the end of last summer the 4 in-board speakers in the rear of the boat just stopped working, so I assumed it was the amp (since the front two were powered by the head unit and they kept playing). I swapped out the amp (thanks to ChpThril) and it didn't fix the issue. I've got power to the amp but I'm getting no sound out of the speakers. I noticed (not sure how I over looked this) that for the 4 rear speakers there were only two channels being used. When I removed the 4 rear in-boards I realized three of the four were run in a series off of one channel. So I tested one of the in-boards with a separate direct line from the amp into the speaker and it worked. Any ideas on why I wouldn't be getting any sound from the series wired speakers? Could one go out somehow and kill the entire chain? Or could it be another issue?

    Think of a set of Xmas lights.....when one goes out, they all go out. This is because they are wired in series.

    With the 4 chnl amp, whats on the 2 chnls NOT used by the in-boats?

    Ok, here are some thoughts. Yes, if the 3 are wired in series, or even parallel/series (which would yield a 2.6 ohm load), then a bad speaker or connection could prevent all 3 from playing. Because you have 4 speakers on 2 chnls, even though it's 1 on 1 and 3 on the other, it could be a bad set of RCA's from the head unit, a setting on the amp, a bad head-unit that could be the culprit. Try swapping some RCA cables around and make sure the fade on the head unit is at the mid point. One other thing you cab do. If you have a AUX Ipod cable with the 3.5mm jack on one end and a pair of RCA plugs on the other, plug it right into the chnls of the amp half that's not working and see if it plays using the Ipod/MP3!

    Now, since we know the amp is not the problem here is what I would do once you find the root problem. I would move all the in-boats to the amp. The pair in the bow will go on chnl 1 and 2. One pair in the main cabin wired parallel on chnl 3, and the 3rd pair wired parallel on chnl 4.

      Cool thanks Mike. I'll try that out. I'm slowly coming to the realization I just need to rewire the entire boat especially to maximize those new wetsounds coming out soon

        don't forget about the settings on the head unit. If it is an xmd3 the outputs have a setting on the head unit. I had it set wrong and lost the rear speakers

          Thats right if the low pass filter is set to low you will not get any sound out. This has happened to me. The default for the HU is 120 and everytime the power is cut to the HU it will default. Press and hold the T button for second or two and then select SW LPF >> ^^there are about 4 settings from 30hz to 120hz and one that is just says rear. For full band width to that rear out put choose REAR. Then press T again. This will need to be done every time power has been lost. It drove me crazy my first time also.
