Kicker comp vr deal?

I found a brand new kicker comp vr for $70. Is this a good deal? Am I correct that the comp vr can be used as a free air sub?

Yes and Yes. What Ohm is it, 2 Ohm DVC or 4 Ohm DVC? This will decide what amp you need to drive it.

Actually I can get either 2 or 4 ohm. Thinking about the 700.5.

Sweet, go w/the 4ohm DVC. Wired in parallel will get you a 2 ohm load @ the amp and the output will be 420W's rms. It will

Bought it. Sorry CHP, this is gonna put my tower speakers off for a little while. Now gotta find me a used 700.5. Just can't bite the bullet on a new one right now.

There was a 2 ohm left this morning. I bought it off eBay. Search for kicker compvr 10. I had $22 in eBay bucks. The actual price was $69, so I only had to pay $47.

No argument about this, but, there are a couple things to consider. First, the difference between the 10" and 12" in this case, is the 12" will need an enclosure. This comes down to how much time and or money does the owner want to put into it - do they want to do the enclosure, do they have the tools and skill, do they want to spend the money to have an installer do it, do they want to loose storage or leg room in the boat. A proper enclosure will almost always improve the sound of a sub, but it comes down to want the owner wants to do.

Next thing to look at is the rest of the system. If the boat has a somewhat basic system: 4 cabin speakers (2 in bow 2 in main cabin) powered off the head-unit or even a moderate amp, then a big thumping 12" sub will over power the mids and highs and the system will be off balance. In this case, your boat might as well be a 78 Caprice with twenty-foes on it and the seat laid back cause all you're gonna hear is thump, thump, thump. There again, it's about personal preference, but IMP, a 12" would drowned out a single pair of main-cabin mids.

J/k. Keep in mind that any warranty is through the seller, and probably not the manufacturer. So if it takes a crap, and IF you get a replacement amp it may not be another of same model #, but could be something they see as a suitable replacement, even a different brand. This is do to the fact that they have no control over their stock of refurbs.

I have found a used 700.5 said to be in perfect working order. The seller was asking $300. I told him the refurbs were going for $230 on eBay. Now he wants me to make him an offer. What do you think is reasonable?

Add this to my groing list of questions: should I mount an amp to the storage wall or fab up an amp rack out of lexan and screw it to the floor? I am afraid of running a screw threw the wall into the walk through.
