Since my first visit there, I've since mastered the bump gate .... as it took out a quarter panel on me the first time. LOL

Lol...sorry Tanner that is funny. The same thing happened to my cousins truck a few years ago. Although I have never tried driving through it, usually my brother or ranch owner drives. It does seem tricky the first few times.

What is a Bump Gate????

Here is the definition of a bump gate:

A bump gate is a drive-through gate used in rural areas to provide a barrier to livestock that does not require the driver to exit the vehicle, open the gate, drive through, and then close the gate. By contacting the swinging bump gate with the front of your vehicle, and then accelerating, the bump gate is pushed open, allowing the vehicle to pass. This does require some skill to avoid the gate swinging back and striking the vehicle. Accordingly, a bump gate is not suitable for long vehicles.

The bump gate self closing mechanism consists of two cables mounted on the gate, and also on an elevated crossbar. The gate does not swing on a conventional hinge. Instead it is fastened to cylinders that encircle a post. When the gate swings open, the swivel action causes the cables to raise the gate slightly. After the vehicle passes through, gravity causes the gate to swing like a pendulum (parallel to the ground) until it settles in the closed positio

Think of the gate as a long bar w/ a pole in the middle that it pivots on and extensions on both sides allowing an entrance side and an exit side (like a T ). Think of it being on a spring that when you open it, pulls it shut. If you give it to much momentum the back end will swing around and crush your rear bumper, and if you don't drive fast enough the gate will shut back on you and crush your side.

really cool pictures, hunting has been slow so far this year in Fla., going hog hunting Friday a.m., we don't have the BIG wildlife like the rest of the states though
