With in the same class of vehicle, like a .5 ton, a gear change is nothing more then a ring and pinion gear set swap. It can be done in a couple hours. Springs would up the pay load (whats carried in the bed) but may not necessarily need to be changed to up the tow rating, as long as the toe hitch stayed the same. It is a 4wd. I will go see what else the Max tow package adds but I believe it is just tow mirrors which I was going to swap out anyway.
