Hmmm.... reconsidering the Touareg... alternator is shot. Dealer A wants $3000, Dealer B wants $2400, my mechanic thinks he can do it for $1400 - $1600. VW says you've got to pull the engine!

Damn alt is $700 by itself.

Cept I bought it used for $15k....live and learn...from now on when I think about a car I'll call up a dealer and get a list of random repair costs.

It's a nice car...tows the 24V like nothing is back there.

suppose the $$ I save DIYing crap on the boat will be offset by the car. Got the steering cable replaced this weekend...what a difference that makes! Wife is getting better at de-winterizing the boat after last years fiasco...though she still had issues with the petcock! She twisted it the wrong way
