Phil, sponge pad, wool or both? I used 1200, 1500 and 2,000 and found that I still had to hit it with the wool pad to get the luster that I wanted on my black gelcoat.

I should clarify huh? You will basically always want to still buff after wetsanding... unless you can find, what 10,000 grit?Originally posted by Timmy! View PostPhil, sponge pad, wool or both? The sanding discs are 3M and Meguiar's hookit sanding discs connected to a 3M foam hookit base on one of my randon orbit sanders. I then used the wool pad on my variable-speed rotary buffer to buff out with the Diamond Cut. I do not have a sponge pad; I am afraid I would tear one up too quick... My heavy hand likes the wool...
Finish it with two coats of hand applied Carnauba and then burnish off the wax with a DIFFERENT WOOL PAD...
Don't get wax in your buffing pad, or your compound wont work.
It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

Nice! I have the hookit setup on my Makita sander/polisher. Haven't used the sanding pads with it.Originally posted by philwsailz View PostI should clarify huh? You will basically always want to still buff after wetsanding... unless you can find, what 10,000 grit?

They are not cheap, but they last forever. WAY different than wet-or-dry you get at the local home improvement store. IF you go machine sanding, be sure to get a small water spritzer bottle and keep your work wet. Keeps the pad from loading up... Put a tiny bit of dish detergent in; Dawn in this case IS a good idea,as it will cut any wax you might still have on the surface you are sanding.Originally posted by Timmy! View PostNice! My buddy saw one for sale on CL and wanted to put it in his boat. Needs a 2.0 cu ft sealed box for 1200 watts. That's not too crazy for size but cuts into the foot well of his F23 Tomcat pretty good.Originally posted by Bruizza View PostTimmy that Orion sub you posted on WW seems badass! Also seems like it would need a huge box.
