Thanks everyone! My son is so stoked. He was the only 9 year old in his class. All the others were 12-13. The Final on Sunday came down to 46 point win was all. Next year is going to be crazy!
Turns out all three of the kids in our group brought home 1st. My Nephew in Men's Expert, his best friend in Men's Intermediate and my son in Jr. Entro.

Yes, it's the big metal idler pulley. The bearings are toast. I need to create a proper thread for this one. Looking at it, it scares me to think that maybe the motor might have to get pulled?

I did. I spoke with him on the phone last Wednesday (after it ate the second belt) But I was out of town for the Regionals until yesterday so I didn't get my face down there to see the bits of the bearings all over down there until late afternoon... I got a picture.

Here's the pulley shaft. I removed the big part of the pulley so it's just the hub mounted to the shaft. You can see the bits of the bearings there... {SIGH}
