Perhaps theres some serious R n D going on for the convex hull shape... maybe an rz2 update is en route so hes going z3 to test new modifications??

Maybe Tige gave them the RZ2 for a discount for a years worth of use and he didn't want to publicize that? Maybe the Z3 is free for a year too? Dunno!

He is trying to make his 24ve a full on contest boat that can switch sides in 5 minutes. He enjoys the R&D and feels the RZ has been proven to be a great surf boat and that is not much left to do to prove that. Thats just what I have taken away from my time spent with them and that has also been covered in the podcast on the 24ve ballast system.

Tige team riders get boats for a duration of time and thats probably no different here.

Since I have a vested interest in what Ragboy did with the RZ2 I can answer. Like Maj said above, Ragboy is trying to make the 24 a contest boat, not an everyday boat. He did say on his podcast that the RZ2 is the best out of the box surf boat that does not require any modifications. The plug and play upgrade to the factory surf ballast is the only mod they did on the RZ2, and that was 5 min worth of disconeting the factory bags and replacing with bigger custom bags, that is it. They did fully sac it out once to see how big they could get it and it was impressive. But physics say a wave is formed by displacing water, and a bigger boat with more weight will displace more water so they went into the R&D mode to see what is possible with the 24Ve.

As they were doing that, WAB was doing mods to his boat to get the batteries and other gear situated so that he could get as much water as far aft and low as possible. He looked at my boat to see how the lockers were configured to open up some space and get his ballast system going. WAB concentrated on max ballast aft and low, Ragboy was working on max ballast AND switching sides in about 5 min. For next summer WAB is going to work on a system to trasfer water from one side to the other more efficiently as well.

As they are doing this I'm taking notes and planning my own upgrade to the basic factory system I've got. Right now I only surf with factory ballast on one side, plus 2X 150# launchpad sacs and as many people as I can get and I have a very nice surfable wave, and I can swap the 150 bags from side to side with a little help and switch sides in about 5 min. When I add the custom locker sacs I'm planning to work with CHP and WAB and add a line between the bags to speed up the transfer rates and have as simple and effective system I can get with minimal fuss from the wife and the least amount of mods to the boat.
