lit off a teeny weenie shower of sparks display on the front porch last night, it was cute for a bit until it unloaded about 25 mortar shells out of it right next to the house

It was about 5 inches high and about 3/4" tube

What would cause the highs to fade out of the song when I'm listening at a high volume?

I think it happens on both.

So, basicaly, it sounds like the tweeters are dropping out durring a song that you know should have some strong highs like some 80's hair band rock. If you can duplicate this, try to isolate it to front/rear/left/right. This might tell us if its a particular speaker or amp/amp chnl.

Also try using a store bought CD. They are typically non-compressed.
