I've stripped paint and stain before, but it was off wood...not a thin laminate like you have. Heat gun would be bad (for the laminate). The stripping chemicals will probably strip the laminate off as well. And sanding will obviously mess it up. You could sand it down and re-laminate it....or just repaint it black.Originally posted by zad0030 View PostI think a woodgrain laminate

If it were real wood,you could use a methylene-chloride -based stripper, but that will eat the laminate, since it is a phenolic...It's not an optical illusion.

You could try one of those soy or citrus-based strippers; something tells me it might not damage the laminate....It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....
