I call BS on the way the OP states it broke.

And BTW you had better be REAL CLOSE to the launch ramp and run like a stuck pig to get your trailer if that happened. By the looks of the hole the bilge pump is not going to keep up with that. Im thinking 10-15 mins tops and its sunk.

He could have done it, then gone to the river to run anyway. He might have busted the hull literally hooking on to go to the river. I am not saying he didn't go to the water, only that the damage did not happen in the water.

Also, he mentions steering going farther than normal. Aren't the stops in the steering system provided by the cable and/or the rack in the steering hub, and NOT the rudder itself? I think the mention of feeling it turn farther than normal is not valid.

um, you can't turn past the end of the rack, so yeah it wouldn't turn more.
