Just found out that the ITU triathlon world championships being held here today cancelled the swim due to cold air/water and risk of hypothermia. They just started them on the bike at 5 second intervals and turned the race into a duathlon instead.

Really? The Elite division are professional triathletes. This is the world championship race. They can't handle a little cold? WTF?

Yeah, it would be chilly - air was 45*F at start time and water was 55*F, with a little breeze...but c'mon! They are professionals!

You should've offered to be a rescue boat. You could've music entertainment as well, with motivational tunes.

I wouldn't mind doing that, as long as the wind isn't blowing too much. But I think they would not allow the music blasting, because it would make it too hard to hear any calls for help from the swimmers.

Last year there were about 3 MC's on the swim course for the Silverman, along with tons on canoes.
