I put in 20 yrs as a leader. Seen it all from the helicopter parents to those that treat scouts as a babysitting service. The best advice for those parents you are having an issue with is to get them directly involved in an activity or event by putting them in charge. This tends to give them an eye opening to what you as the other leaders do on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.Originally posted by skippabcool View PostYou guys that work with the scouts, do you have problems with the parents responding to stuff. I have been hounding them for information for our campout next weekend and they like to wait till the last minute and make it difficult for me.

I haven't done woodbadge yet. I have wanted to but it just hasn't fallen into place yet. 20 years good job. I have done about 8 years. The group that I am working with now think it is mainly a babysitting service. My assistants and I are really excited for scouts and have tried to get the scouts to plan fun activities but can't get any commitments. You gotta love when you when you take time off work and the scouts plan an activity and then none of them show up. It is better than when I started I had a total defunct troop. We have 26 scouts / parents going to our winter camp this coming weekend. For us that is a lot. Now if it is planned and the scouts don't go I still go with my boy and my assistant and his son. They are starting to get there but there isn't much parental support. We also have parents with the mentality that everyone should be an Eagle or get any award whether they work for it or not. That doesn't fly so well with me. Not everyone can be in 1st place or own a Tige.Originally posted by chpthril View PostI put in 20 yrs as a leader.
